How is one to solve the problem of too many visitors? The Jackdaw (October 2007) and ArtWatch UK Journal (Autumn 2007) rightly complain that crowds can reduce the enjoyment of blockbuster exhibitions. But some permanent attractions (albeit less frequently) clearly also have problems with visitors. Should groups and coach parties be discouraged? Does the need for revenue trump other considerations? Crowds sound very "democratic", but perhaps they should be directed to the funfair of Tate Modern and the like, where harm is more likely to befall the visitors than the objects?
