For many years I have felt that the Elgin marbles should be returned to Athens. I gather from my limited knowledge that the marbles were legally sold and transported to the London Museum. Unaddressed is whether
the marbles should have been sold in the first place. My position is that
they definitely should have remained in Athens. 

The goodwill that England and the London Museum would receive is beyond calculation. At a time when acquitiveness apparently reigns supreme, it would set an worthy example of a cultural sensitivity that all too lacking in
our present lives.

My guess is that millions of people would agree with position, but more
immediate concerns push this issue far into the background.
