Older photos – transfer of the first sculptures to the New Acropolis Museum

Posted at 1:54 pm in Elgin Marbles, New Acropolis Museum

I’ve been going through my older photos of the New Acropolis Museum & uploading some more of them to Flickr.

Here are some from October 2007, when the first sculptures were craned down from the Acropolis to the New Acropolis Museum by a relay of three cranes.

Short version of the METOPO Parthenon Marbles protest video

Posted at 11:09 am in British Museum, Elgin Marbles

There is now an edited (one minute long) version of the video of last weekend’s protest outside the British Museum organised by METOPO. Well worth watching, even if you didn’t find the time to see the full ten minute one that I posted originally.

You can read more details about the protest itself here.

Το “BRING THEM BACK” ήχησε μέσα στο Βρετανικό Μουσείο!

Protest outside the British Museum for the return of the Parthenon Marbles

Posted at 6:27 pm in British Museum, Elgin Marbles

The Parthenon Marbles reunification protest outside the British Museum yesterday was well attended – by my counting, there were over fifty people there, despite the rather chilly weather. There was quite a bit of interest from some of the people passing by & I got a chance to meet the organisers of the event. Unfortunately the British Museum limits the duration of such protests to fourty minutes – which has the effect of limiting the impact of them to people passing by during that time period.

Elginism on Flickr

Posted at 12:28 pm in Elgin Marbles, New Acropolis Museum

In addition to this site, for some time now it has been possible to follow Elginism on its associated Twitter feed & Facebook page. In an attempt to increase the multimedia aspects of the site, you can now also join Elginism’s Flickr photostream. At present the photostream consists of archive images – some of which I’ve already made available through other sources. In the coming months though I hope to further integrate these various aspects of the site so that they tie in more closely to the main site.

A youtube channel for Elginism will also be available soon.

The new Acropolis Museum in Athens, containing the world’s finest collection of ancient Greek sculpture, opens to the public on Monday.

The Greek government hopes its opening will help revive an international campaign to bring back the Elgin marbles – sculptures from the Acropolis temples displayed in the British Museum in London.
